Law aspirants who missed the original October 31 cutoff have one more week. The Consortium of National Law Universities has extended the registration deadline for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027 to November 7, 2026, and applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm that day.
The revised deadline applies to both CLAT-UG and CLAT-PG. The application window opened on August 3, so the extension adds a full week for candidates who still need to finish their forms, upload documents or pay the fee.
What CLAT 2027 is for
CLAT scores are used for admission to five-year integrated LLB programmes and one-year LLM courses at 26 participating National Law Universities for the academic year 2027-28. Among them are the National Law School of India University in Bengaluru and NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad, two of the most sought-after law schools in the country.
The examination itself will be held on December 6, 2026, from 2 pm to 4 pm, in offline pen-and-paper mode at centres across India. Admit cards are expected in November, though the Consortium has not announced an exact date yet. Candidates will download their hall tickets from the official website using their login credentials.
Exam pattern stays the same
The Consortium has kept the existing exam pattern and syllabus for CLAT 2027. That decision came after a review of recommendations from the CLAT Expert Committee, which had proposed changes to the paper, including reducing the number of sections in the undergraduate test.
The CLAT-UG paper will still have 120 multiple-choice questions across five sections: English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. Candidates get two hours. Each correct answer carries one mark, and 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong answer, so blind guessing can cost a candidate real marks.
Fees and how to apply
General and OBC candidates, along with NRI, PIO and OCI applicants, must pay Rs 4,000. The fee for SC, ST, BPL and PwD candidates is Rs 3,500. Payment is made online, and the fee is non-refundable.
Applications go through the official CLAT 2027 portal. Candidates register with a mobile number and email address, fill in personal and academic details, upload a photograph, signature and any applicable category certificates, pay the fee and submit the form. The confirmation page should be downloaded and kept safe, since it is needed later for admit card and counselling steps.
Before submitting, it is worth checking every entry against the original documents. Our guide to the admission documents checklist covers the paperwork most universities ask for, and the same habit applies here: a wrong date of birth or a mismatched certificate can cause trouble long after the form is filed.
