Chhattisgarh will soon have a government option for students who want to study homoeopathy. The state has received approval to open its first government homoeopathy college in Nava Raipur, with 63 seats in the Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) course from the 2026-27 session. The approval was announced this week.

The approval came from the Medical Assessment and Rating Board, which works under the National Commission for Homoeopathy in New Delhi. The board cleared the newly built University College of Homoeopathy at Atal Nagar in Nava Raipur after inspecting the campus. The campus is in Sector-40, Uperwara, in the Nava Raipur area. The approval letter was issued under Section 29 of the National Commission for Homoeopathy Act, 2020, and the permission is conditional.

State Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal welcomed the approval and said it would expand AYUSH medical education in the state and open new opportunities for students who want to study homoeopathy.

Why a government college matters

Until now, Chhattisgarh’s BHMS colleges have been privately run, according to state counselling listings. That left students with private fees as the only route into the course. For many families, a government seat is the more affordable way in, and 63 seats in the first batch gives the state’s homoeopathy aspirants a new option inside the state.

The three private BHMS colleges listed in the state’s counselling records, in Raipur and Bilaspur, together offer 200 seats: Raipur Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital with 50, Maharana Pratap Homoeopathic Medical College with 50, and Chhadamilal Chouksey Memorial Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital with 100. The new government college adds 63 seats to that pool and gives students a public option for the first time.

How admission will work

BHMS seats in Chhattisgarh are filled through NEET-UG, followed by the state AYUSH counselling rounds. Students register on the state AYUSH counselling portal, fill their choices, and are allotted seats by rank and preference. Students aiming for one of the 63 seats should follow the same route.

The state government has not yet said which counselling round will include the new seats, and the fee structure has not been announced. Students should check the official counselling notices for both. Those comparing colleges can use our guide to choosing a university in India to compare courses and fees before locking a choice.
