Candidates who had not finished their Assam NEET PG registration yet have one more day. The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam, has extended Round 1 online registration for NEET PG 2026 state quota counselling to 11:59 PM on October 28, 2026.

The extension came in a notice dated October 26, following an earlier DME notice dated October 16. The counselling covers 50 per cent of the postgraduate seats in Assam’s government medical colleges and the Dr. B. Barooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) in Guwahati, under the state quota. Registration is done on the official DME Assam portal.

What candidates need to do next

Registration is only the first step. Once it closes on October 28, candidates move to choice filling on October 29 and 30. This is where they list their preferred colleges and subjects in order, and the order matters, since allotment follows the preference list along with merit and seat availability.

Locking deserves a careful read. The locking window on October 30 runs from 4 PM to 11:55 PM, and choices are locked automatically after the window if a candidate has not locked them earlier. Candidates who leave choices unlocked still get processed, but they lose control over which preferences count. Locking before the window ends is the safer move.

After the result on November 2

Seat allotment processing takes place on October 31 and November 1, and the result is published on November 2. Along with the result, DME will display a college-wise and subject-wise list of provisionally selected candidates, plus the modalities of admission, which spell out how selected candidates complete the admission formalities.

Candidates who get a seat then have November 9 and 10 to report and join at the allotted institution. That window is short, so keeping admission documents ready before the result saves a scramble later. The admission documents checklist covers the papers candidates are usually asked to carry for verification.

Medical graduates in the state will know the counselling route well by now. The Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences is the affiliating university for the state’s medical colleges, and its profile carries the background on the institutions whose seats are on offer in this round.
