October 21 is when the registration window opens. The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam, has released the schedule for Round 1 of NEET PG 2026 state quota counselling, and candidates have five days, from October 21 to 25, to register on the official DME Assam portal.

The counselling covers 50 per cent of the postgraduate seats in Assam’s government medical colleges and the Dr. B. Barooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) in Guwahati. The state published a revised provisional merit list earlier this month, naming 3,585 eligible candidates.

Round 1 schedule

The dates announced by DME Assam for the first round:

  • Online registration: October 21 to 25, 2026 (closes 11:59 PM on October 25)
  • Choice filling: October 26 to 28
  • Choice locking: October 28
  • Seat allotment processing: October 29 to 31
  • Provisional allotment list: November 1
  • Result: November 2
  • Reporting and joining: November 9 to 10

The last date of joining for Round 1 is November 10.

Candidates should not leave it for the last day. The portal handles registration, choice filling and locking in one flow, and the choices locked by October 28 go straight into the allotment processing that starts October 29.

Who can register

Only candidates who appeared in NEET PG 2026 and cleared the declared cut-off can take part. Their name and NEET PG 2026 roll number must appear in the state provisional merit list that DME Assam published on dme.assam.gov.in. Admissions run under the Medical Colleges of Assam (Regulation of Admission into Post Graduate Degree and Diploma Courses) Rules, 2021, as amended.

The process is fully online. Candidates register on the DME portal, fill in their preferred colleges and courses, lock the choices, and the allotment is processed on merit.

What follows Round 1

The counselling calendar continues into December:

  • Round 2: November 14 to 23, joining by November 30
  • Round 3: December 4 to 12, joining by December 18
  • Stray vacancy round: December 22 to 25, joining by December 31

The academic session for PG courses begins on November 20, 2026.

Government medical colleges in the state, such as the Gauhati Medical College in Guwahati, function under Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, the state’s affiliating university for medical education.
