Law graduates who have been putting off the form have run out of waiting time. The Bar Council of India closes registration for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) XXII today, October 27, 2026. Anyone who has not submitted the form yet needs to do it through the official AIBE portal before the window shuts.

Registration and fee payment do not share a deadline, and that gap matters. The form itself closes today, but the fee can still be paid till October 28. A form without the fee paid is not a finished application, so candidates who register today should not leave payment for later in the week. The correction window follows on October 29 and 30, giving applicants two days to fix errors in the submitted form.

The dates to keep in front of you

Registration opened on August 19, 2026, so this window has been open for more than two months. The remaining dates are close together now. Admit cards are scheduled for release on November 14, and the exam is scheduled for November 29, about four weeks from today.

AIBE is the qualifying exam for law graduates seeking a Certificate of Practice, the document that allows them to practise law in India. It is conducted by the Bar Council of India, and it is the step that turns a law degree into a practising licence.

Who can appear

Eligible applicants include graduates of three-year or five-year LLB programmes recognised by the Bar Council of India. Final-semester students without backlogs in earlier semesters may also be eligible, subject to the conditions the council has prescribed. Candidates who are unsure about their enrolment position should check the council’s instructions on the portal before submitting, since the rules differ across applicant categories.

Students at law schools such as the National Law University, Delhi will recognise the pattern from other law entrance cycles: the form, the fee and the confirmation page are three separate steps, and all three have to be completed. Our admission documents checklist runs through the photograph, signature and certificates to keep ready before starting a form, which helps avoid a last-minute upload failure on deadline day.

What the fee is

General and OBC candidates pay Rs 3,500. Candidates from the SC, ST and PwD categories pay Rs 2,500. The fee is paid online through the portal, and the payment window closes on October 28. Candidates should download the confirmation page after payment, since that page is the proof of submission if anything goes wrong later.

What the paper looks like

The revised syllabus sets 100 questions across 19 legal subjects. Constitutional Law carries 10 questions, as does the Code of Civil Procedure. Criminal procedure, covering the Criminal Procedure Code alongside the new Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, also carries 10. The Indian Penal Code with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, evidence with the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, family law, and contract law carry 8 each.

The pairing of old codes with new criminal laws is the part of this cycle that candidates need to read carefully. The syllabus includes provisions under the new criminal laws alongside the corresponding older codes, so preparation that covers only one set will leave gaps. The remaining subjects, including professional ethics, labour law, taxation and intellectual property law, carry smaller shares.
