    GMAT Practice Question-of the 84 parents who attended a meeting at a school, 35 volunteered to supervise children during the school picnic and 11 volunteered both to supervise children during the picnic and to bring refreshments to the picnic. If the number of parents who volunteered to bring refreshments was 1.5 times the number of parents who neither volunteered to supervise children during the picnic nor volunteered to bring refreshments, how many of the parents volunteered to bring refreshments?

    A. 25

    B. 36

    C. 38

    D. 42

    E. 45

    Answer- out of 35 parents who agreed to supervise kids, 11 also volunteered to bring refreshments so;

    35-11=24 parents only agreed to supervision

    Now let’s assume that;

    X= number of parents who agreed for bringing refreshment

    Y= number of parents who didn’t agreed to bringing refreshment or supervision

    Number of parents who volunteered to bring refreshments was 1.5 times the number of parents who neither volunteered to supervise children during the picnic nor volunteered to bring refreshments, therefore,

    x=1.5y

    total number of parents = 85

    so we have a equation;

    x+y+25=84

    x+y=84-24 (24 parents agreed for providing only supervision)

    x+y=60

    now substitute x for 1.5y

    1.5y+y=60

    2.5y=60

    Y=60/2.5=24

    Question is asking us to find out the value of x, i.e. number of parents who volunteered to bring refreshments,

    X=1.5y

    = 1.5(24)

    =36

    Answer choice, B

    which of the following could be the remainder when s is divided by t
